With temperature highs reaching the low 60s this week, we wondered why the horses at Hedgewood Farm in Laurel could be seen wrapped in blankets.
So we asked Dawn Hommel, who owns the 12 acre horse boarding facility with her mother Jeanette, why that is.
The Hommels explained that some horses are clipped or shaved, so it is not as difficult to dry off their sweat during exercise. Some horses need to be protected from the elements even in temperatures in the 50s.
The women have owned the farm for 30 years and board 20 horses of various breeds there.
