After just opening this past summer, Red Maple restaurant at the Chequit Inn has introduced its new fall menu showcasing heartier fall foods.

“The team has worked very hard on the new menu and the feedback has been incredible,” said co-owner David Bowd, who along with Kevin O’Shea also owns two inns on Cape Cod. “We’re very excited.”

“It was all about making the menu more accessible during the winter,” Bowd continued. “We have a lot of new stuff.”

While popular main entrees like the herb roasted Amish chicken and pan roasted Atlantic cod have remained, rib-sticking entrées like the grilled Berkshire bone-in pork chops and seared sea scallops have been added. Most main entrées are under $30.

But what has been most popular on Red Maple’s menu has been their servings called plates and bites. Smaller then an entrée, “bites” such as the chicken croquettes and pumpkin hummus offer an appetizer-sized snack. “Plates,” like bacon wrapped shimp and bowl of Prince Edward Island mussels, offer a little bit more without being too filling. Prices for plates and bites range from $5 to $17.

“The whole goal was to try and put something for everybody on the new menu and really pull out the fall flavors,” said chef Robert Sawyer.

A brand new part of the menu is the snug menu, which offers macaroni and cheese (prepared three ways), New England clam chowder and the Red Maple burger. Prices on that menu range from $9 to $30. All are perfect for a cold day on Shelter Island.

“The whole snug menu was created to include comfort foods that are fall appropriate,” O’Shea said.

Also new to the menu are nightly specials. On Thursday nights Red Maple will offer a two-for-one special on all entrées while on Sunday nights it is offering 50 percent off many of its wines.

Red Maple serves dinner Thursdays through Sundays beginning at 5 p.m. The restaurant is located at the Chequit Inn at 23 Grand Avenue in Shelter Island Heights on Shelter Island. For more information or to make a reservation go to thechequit.com.
