Carless city dwellers can take advantage of everything the North Fork has to offer during the annual “Taste North Fork” festival, which returns to Long Island Wine Country this November.

The event features free shuttle service among the various locations on the tour, at the Mattituck and Greenport Long Island Rail Road stations and at the Cross Sound Ferry terminal in Orient. The three loops are as follows: a bus route from Riverhead to Aquebogue; a route that begins in Aquebogue and ends in Peconic; and a route that runs from Peconic to Greenport.

The festival runs Saturday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 14 from noon to 5:30 p.m. There is no fee to use the shuttle.

“Over the past two years, we saw ridership more than double from 1,100 in 2013 to over 2,400 last year,” said Steve Bate, executive director of the Long Island Wine Council, the event’s organizer. “If it continues to be successful, we believe the shuttle could eventually become a permanent feature with major benefits for our environment while opening up our region to one of the world’s largest population centers with among the lowest levels of private car ownership.”

Buses will run every 30 minutes from noon until 5:30 p.m. during both days of the festival.
