Take a walk for a good cause and then go shopping.

This Sunday, Sept. 27, marks the 17th annual Tanger 5K Walk at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead, which benefits the North Fork Breast Health Coalition.

The North Fork Breast Health Coaltion works toward the prevention and early intervention of breast cancer, as well as finding a cure. Because it’s a not-for-profit organization, there are no employees, so all funds raised go directly to those diagnosed with breast cancer on the North Fork.

Money raised from Sunday’s 5K walk at Tanger Outlets will go to programs such as “Lend a Helping Hand,” which provides grants to North Fork breast cancer patients.

This year’s walk will also honor the memory of North Fork Breast Health Coalition president Pearl Philindas, who died Aug. 7, 2014 at age 72.

The 17th annual Tanger 5K Walk kicks off Sunday morning at Tanger Outlets,  located at 200 Tanger Mall Drive in Riverhead.

A continental breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. and the walk will begin at 9 a.m. There will be T-shirt giveaways, raffles, prizes and more. Walkers should be finished in time to start shopping at Tanger Outlets with a 25% off PINK card by 10 a.m. Participants must be 13 and over.

Day-of-event registration is $25. For more information or to sign up, please visit northforkbreasthealth.org.
