Shelter Island is the scene of yet another high-fashion shoot this week, as designer Tory Burch brings her new collection to the Rock.

A 50-60 person production crew was here yesterday and will be here today, Wednesday, to shoot Burch’s latest designs at the Peconic Avenue home of Cary Tamarkin. The production, which includes print and film photography, will use two motor homes, four 16-foot trucks as well as a dozen SUVs. The shoot is a combined production by Moxie Productions of New York City in cooperation with Holly Li Productions of East Hampton.

Burch, who designs women’s fashion’s and accessories, is number 17 on Forbes Magazine’s list of “America’s Richest Self-Made Women.”

The two-day fashion shoot was approved by the Shelter Island Town Board during a special meeting last Thursday night. Tamarkin’s neighbors are also cooperating by agreeing to rent their driveways and lawns for catering companies and vehicles. Other vehicles may have to park as far away as the Manhasett Firehouse on Cobbetts Lane, Shelter Island Police Chief Jim Read told the Shelter Island Reporter.

“What they say they’re going to do, they do,” Read said of the producers, noting that they conducted another shoot in the area just a few weeks ago.

Organizer Holly Li was tight-lipped about exactly what was being photographed, only confirming that area hotels have been booked and that catering is being handled by Shelter Island locals.

“It’s a pretty standard photo shoot,” Li explained. “It’s not like a film, which is announced. It’s a little different with fashion; it’s treated more like a private event.”

Li did agree that Shelter Island is a great location for fashion shoots (Glamour Magazine and Aerie recently held shoots here).

“It’s been a beautiful season; there will be more people out here,” she said.

While Burch herself may not be on the Rock this week, she did recently tweet the below picture while visiting the island.
