Shelter Island’s The Chequit inn, which was recently purchased by David Bowd and Kevin O’Shea and reopened in May, received a glowing write-up in the New York Post this week.
“[It is located] in the heart of Shelter Island Heights, a district close to the ferry to Greenport and a short stroll from a good range of restaurants, cafes and even a yoga studio,” the article states. “With its airy veranda and free-flowing early-evening bubbly, the Chequit makes an ideal base to enjoy this still under-the-radar island.”
Writer David Kaufman also notes the scarcity of high-end properties on Shelter Island despite its proximity to the glitzy Hamptons.
“Despite its deep-pocketed clientele, Shelter Island still lacks in upscale digs beyond Andre Balazs’ buzzy Sunset Beach Hotel,” Kaufman wrote. “Chequit owners David Bowd and Kevin O’Shea, of Salt Hotels, are veterans of both Balazs’ firm and Morgans Hotel Group, operating the Chequit with the type of precision and professionalism often lacking at small-sized newcomers.”
The article also called Red Maple, the inn’s recently opened restaurant, a “must-try.”
