Shinn Estate Vineyard’s red blend is a perfect bottle to drink outside in your flip flops on a scorcher like today, according to Men’s Journal.

The wine, which is available at the Mattituck vineyard for $16, was one of five reds suggested by the magazine to drink this summer.

“From one of Long Island’s best wineries, this is a blend of multiple grapes — mainly merlot and cabernet franc — with good complexity and depth of flavor,” the article states. “It’s an excellent match for grilled chicken.”

It was the only American wine on the list which included selections from Italy, Spain and Chile.

In other news Kareem Massoud of Paumanok Vineyards gave an insightful interview on the podcast “I’ll drink to that with Levi Dalton.” Massoud talks about his family’s decision to found the Aquebogue vineyard in the 1980’s and the challenges of growing wine in Long Island’s humid climate.

“We’ve become obsessed and very meticulous about the viticulture. We go through great efforts to achieve the sort of canopy management we’re looking for. It’s no secret what a lot of growers are looking to do which is to maintain an open and airy canopy,” Massoud said. “The way I like to describe it to people is you want every grape cluster to be able to see the sun and to feel the wind. And that is a huge starting point. If you can start off with that then you are so much less reliant on other intervention.”
