Imagine biking along miles and miles of beautiful vineyards, bucolic farmland and the Long Island Sound. Sounds like a perfect way to spend a Saturday. Now add to that helping a very important cause.

The 2015 Long Island/Greater NYC Tour de Cure kicks off tomorrow in Peconic. But the Tour de Cure is much more than a cycling fundraiser. It’s a day where cyclists of every fitness level can get outside to enjoy the day and have fun, while at the same time raising money for diabetes research and education.

“This is our 25th year,” says Kristine Magnifico, Director of Long Island and Westchester area markets. “It’s a big event, usually about 100 people sign up and anybody can take part.”

All of the routes will begin and end at Pindar Vineyards in Peconic. The shortest route is only six miles, while the more ambitious can tackle the longest one at 100 miles.

All routes go through the North Fork wine country. Cyclists can enjoy the scenery, then stop and relax at participating wineries that have provided their facilities for the event. The routes will be fully supported with route marshals, SAG vehicles and mechanical support. All rest stops will be stocked with water, Gatorade, and a variety of snacks to keep cyclists fueled.

Cyclists will start the day with fresh coffee and breakfast  before they head out. Then after their ride, cyclists will enjoy a party at Pindar that includes a barbecue lunch, live music, massages, a health and wellness village and a Kids Zone.

If you don’t have a bike, bikes can be rented via East End Bike Tours in Mattituck.  Call now to reserve a bike for the tour. All bikes rented for the event will be transported to and from Pindar Vineyards for you at a rate of $32.00 (plus tax) per bike. Rentals are limited, so don’t delay.
