The sun has set, it’s after dinner, but you don’t want the night to end. Or maybe you just spent the day at the beach and are looking to enjoy those great happy hour specials. Either way, an expertly crafted cocktail can enhance the experience.

Here are five North Fork spots to grab a drink this summer.

Brix And Rye

308A Main St., Greenport

One of the coolest new additions to the NoFo, this subterranean watering hole is great for a cocktail or a glass of local wine. Great atmosphere, friendly service and pizza from the adjacent 1943 Pizza Bar. And Evan is one of the nicest mixologist’s you will ever meet.

Their menu contains both refreshing mixes as well as drinks that pack a punch. On a recent visit we ordered a “Devil take the Hindmost.” It was not for the weak.

Petulant Wino

739 Main Road, Aquebogue

The drink menu includes inventive cocktails, all-local beer and a wine menu that is 50 percent local. The cocktails feature inventive names like “Leave the Gun, Take the Canoli” and “Great American Literature.” They also offer half pours and tastes of wine.

Sit at the bar and grab a small plate.

Sunset Beach

35 Shore Road, Shelter Island

This is the place to see and be seen on Shelter Island. And as the name suggests, it’s an ideal spot to watch the sun go down. If you’re looking for a little less swank, the Pridwin Hotel is a great option — and is located just down the road.

Blue Canoe Oyster Bar & Grill

104 3rd St., Greenport

Enjoy a drink at the tiki bar while overlooking Greenport Harbor.  And the fire pit adds a nice vibe, especially on an unseasonably chilly night.

Orient by the Sea

40200 Main Road, Orient

This place offers spectacular views, especially if you’re waiting for the Cross Sound Ferry.
