Crocus emerge from a blanket of last fall’s fallen leaves.

Last Saturday, on the first day of Peconic River Herb Farm‘s annual spring cabin fever tent/barn sale, it snowed four inches overnight.

So it’s only fitting that the final day of the Calverton nursery’s spring sale — which continues today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — is being held one day after yet another spring snowfall.

This hidden gem garden outlet is tucked away on 14 scenic riverfront acres and contains a boutique-style speciality plant nursery with eight greenhouses filled with herbs and unique plants. In addition, it sells pottery, garden art, old tools and organic herb, flower and heirloom vegetable seeds in a two-story barn located on the grounds of the nursery.

Owner Cris Spindler will officially open for the season on April 1, marking 29 years since she first put out some herb plants for sale on a picnic table outside the family’s log cabin.

Peconic River Herb Farm will also host an Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids will be able to hunt for eggs throughout the gardens, grounds and greenhouses.
