Legendary jazz musician Charlie “Yardbird” Parker was just 34 years old when he died in 1955, but in his short life he was one of the most influential saxophonists of his time.

Celebrate his life and legacy with First Baptist Church of Riverhead this Friday, Feb. 27 as playwright and Saint Louis native Jeff Robinson channels his spirit with his one man show “Live Bird.”

The play is set in a bar in Harlem in the summer of 1947. Bird talks about his days in Kansas City, Mo. to imaginary characters, imitates Lester Young and plays some of his own songs.

Admission is a $25 donation for adults and $15 for children under 14. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

The First Baptist Church of Riverhead W.C. Harris Fellowship Hall is located at 1018 Northville Turnpike in Riverhead.
