On Jane Kirkwood’s first day as the gallery director for East End Arts in 2006, she thought she could hang all 85 pieces in that year’s members’ show in one night.

She wound up pulling an all-nighter, working until 6 a.m. the next day.

“It was an eyeopener and trial by fire,” she recalled.

This year’s show, titled “Squares,” includes even more works with 130 entires by member artists.

“It made me hang the show in a very economical way,” Kirkwood said. “And it couldn’t be more diverse, from tapestries to a sculpture made out of egg cartons.”

There will be a “meet the artists” reception tonight, Jan. 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at East End Arts located at 133 E. Main Street in Riverhead. Refreshments will be served.

The show continues through March 6. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
