For the second year in a row, the Stotzky Ice rink is ready to skate on.

After frigid temps overnight, the rink was officially opened on Thursday morning.

Councilman George Gabrielsen stopped down at Stotzky Park Thursday morning to check on the condition of the ice at the temporary skating rink and found Justin Macdonald of Manorville climbing over the fence with hockey skates, a broom and snow shovel.

Seeing this eager hockey enthusiast, the recreation committee chairman decided it was time to unlock the gate and call it open for the season. He said it will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. depending on the weather, noting that the temperatures will climb into the 40’s by the middle of next week.

The rink was flooded last Friday by the town’s building and grounds department said department head Guy Cawley. It took 2 hours to fill it with the approximately 19,000 gallons of water- it is 4 inches thick in some places and nine inches in others.Rink2
