Stand out from the crowd and help rid the world of a little pollution with a holiday wreath made from upcycled beach trash this season.

Greenport artist Cindy Pease Roe will host two workshops in December, one family-friendly and for adults, where you can learn to make the door decorations using only found objects.

Participants can either forage for their own materials or choose items from Roe’s extensive, color-coded selection, she said. Holiday-colored items are plentiful, said Roe who has used red shotgun shells and green bottle caps in her works.

“When you are making a wreath you can always go with color. Reds, greens, and golds for Christmas or blue and gold for Hanukkah,” she said. “Some people want to be more designer-like and they will do a monochromatic tone.”

Roe has been making sculptures from beach trash for the past four years. She collects discarded plastic that washes up on the shore along the Sound during her daily walks with her two boxers and turns the refuse into her signature pieces.

She collects the discarded items, sorts them by color and materials and repurposes them into the vibrant nautical-themed works of art on display in her Sterling Street studio and gallery.

This is the first workshop she will host in the studio.

“It really is such a conversation piece,” she said of the wreaths. “People see all sorts of plastic flotsam and jetsam. It’s kind of neat. And it educates everyone about the marine environment.”

A class will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. Wine and cheese will be served and the co is $65

A second family-friendly class will be held on Dec. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $55
