After spending decades in the hospitality industry and honing her skills, you could say that The Morning Glory Bed and Breakfast innkeeper Renate Wilhelm knows a thing or know about making guests feel at home.

Before opening the downtown Greenport inn in 2004 with her husband, Klaus, Wilhelm worked for many prominent social and political figures on Long Island handling everything from gourmet cooking and event planning to entertaining.

Now the Greenport inn is celebrating 10 years in business and Wilhelm still says that hospitality is the key to her success.

“The personal touches are very important,” she said. “It is a part of the whole experience that I think guests are looking for.”

Unlike other bed and breakfast’s you will not find an online availability calendar to make reservations. Instead, Wilhelm prefers guests call to book. It is just another way of personalizing a guest’s stay at the inn, Wilhelm said.

“I like talking to my guests and getting a feel of what they are looking for when they come,” she said. “You have to think of what your guests like. It is what makes their stay special, that is what hospitality is all about.”

Decorated simply with whitewashed walls and fluffy linens, you’ll want to curl right up in one of The Morning Glory’s three bedrooms.

Each sunlit room offers a private bathroom, air conditioning, flat-screen TV with DVD/VCR capability and free Wi-Fi. Wilhelm also has a DVD library for guests to enjoy.

The breakfast at Fordham House offers plenty.

The multi-course meal is made from farm-to-table ingredients. Menu items include puffed apple pancakes and herb scrambled eggs with bacon.

Plus, guests can always find a sweet treat to snack on throughout the day in the inn’s dinning room.

The wrap-around porch is a big hit among guests, who often enjoy a glass of local wine while looking out onto the quiet village streets.

However, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars just a quick walk away when guests are looking to adventure outside the home.

The Morning Glory Bed & Breakfast is located at 912 Main Street in Greenport.
