Hungry Mattituck residents, once restricted to Chinese takeout when craving foreign food, will soon have another local option for ethnic cuisine.

The owners of Greek Bites Grill & Café in Moriches will open a second location in Mattituck Plaza in January.

Husband and wife team Spiro and Dimitra Laopodis plan to replicate the Montauk Highway eatery’s menu, which features gyros, Greek salads and spinach pie, among other options, at their new location.

“It will be an exact copy of what we have there,” Ms. Laopidis said. “More or less.”

This is welcome news for Mediterrean food lovers as those types of restaurants are few and far between on the North Fork.

Greek Bites will be only the second Greek restaurant on the North Fork after Hellenic Snack Bar & Restaurant in East Marion. Turkuaz Grill serves Mediterranean cuisine in downtown Riverhead and John Mantzapoulous has announced plans to open the Mediterrean restaurant Mazi in Riverhead in the location of the former Athens Grill, which was destroyed in a fire in 2013.

“We feel that it’s something the area needed,” Ms. Laopidis said. “And we know there’s a Greek community in the area.”

She said the pair plan to overhaul the building’s decor, which still features bright blue counter tops from when it was briefly Big City Burger and Atomic Wings. The interior will be blue and white, she said.

A takeout favorite for those living in the Moriches area, the original location recently celebrated its seventh anniversary, Ms. Laopidis said.

Greek Bites will be the latest addition to Mattituck, where a number of casual eaters have opened in the past year.

CJ’s American Grill also opened in Mattituck Plaza this year and Lombardi’s Love Lane Market and Ammirati’s both recently opened on Love Lane. And Gula Gula Empanadas will soon open a Pike Street storefront.
