For a hearty, simple and traditional lunch at an old-fashioned diner, visit this Greenport mainstay.
In this week’s edition of “What’s for Lunch?” we suggest a meatloaf sandwich from Coronet on Front Street.
Two large rectangles of homemade meatloaf are served on a roll with lettuce, tomato and coleslaw with fries and gravy on the side ($8.50). Go easy on the gravy and you will have plenty left over to dip your french fries.
The dish was so filling that I left an entire meatloaf patty untouched. The coleslaw is fresh and does not drown in mayonnaise.
The decor and yellow-tiled floors of the old-fashioned diner harken back to an era of soda jerks and malted shakes. And the reasonable prices are among some of the most affordable in the village.
Known for their pancakes, the diner serves breakfast items like French toast and omelets all day long.
