Putting a local spin on the age-old words of wisdom “eat, drink and be merry,” the North Fork Foodie Tour is back by popular demand this weekend. And we highly recommend checking out.
For eight years the self-guided tour has been hailed as a great way to spend a day eating Long Island duck, strawberries, potatoes, corn and much more.
Just ask Northforker.com’s Rachel Young, who took the tour for herself last year.
In addition to many old favorites (see below), new tour stops include Long Island Mushroom Farm, Young Widows’ Farm, Surrey Lane Vineyard Orchard Farm, Greenport Harbor Brewery, Mar-Gene Farms and 8 Hands Farm. Guests are invited to take pictures for entry in a photo contest judged by award-winning photographer Judy Ahrens, the former staff photographer of The Suffolk Times.
The event kicks off this Sunday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tickets and maps can be purchased the day of the event at Peconic Land Trust’s Charnews Farm on Youngs Avenue in Southold, where an open house will be held in conjunction with the tour. Guests can learn about growing and cooking with herbs, local aquaculture, organic poultry and crops and more. Chef and author John Ross will present an overview of local culinary topics.
Admission is $25 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Tickets are available at northforkreformsynagogue.org, and also Gallery M in Greenport, Complement the Chef in Southold, BookHampton in Mattituck and Barth’s Pharmacy in Riverhead; or by mail at NFRS, P.O. Box 1625, Southold 11971.
