A spontaneous and elaborate banquet recently materialized on the North Fork when the PBS reality cooking show Moveable Feast with Fine Cooking shot an episode here for its upcoming second season.
Chefs Bill Taibe of The Whelk in Westport, CT and Will Horowitz of Ducks Eatery in New York joined Australia’s most famous chef, Pete Evans, for a North Fork pop-up feast earlier this month.
The show, which is filming episodes for its second season set to air in September, features Evans and the country’s most innovative chefs working together on spontaneous feasts in unique settings.
Scenes for the North Fork episode were shot at Horowitz’s Jamesport farm and Crescent Duck Farm in Aquebogue. The episode will also feature the chefs whelking (that’s gathering snails) with Greenport bayman Joseph Angevine.
The episode will air sometime after early September, though the exact date has not yet been set.
The episode’s final menu is as follows: whelk salad with celery salsa verde and ramp mayo roasted carrots, beets and fermented black beans; smoked duck prosciutto crostini with wakame seaweed butter, preserved mussels, blood orange and thyme; smoked duck with grits, pressed duck gravy, black garlic and pickled green strawberries; and a New England clam bake with lobster, chicken thighs, littleneck clams, mussels, corn and potatoes.
