Uncle Joe’s Pizza & Restaurant has been a staple in Hamptons Bays for nearly 30 years, and now they’re bringing their expertise — and unique crispy crust pies — to the North Fork. Uncle Joe’s opened at its second location at the former Village Pizza location in Mattituck last week.
Owner Steven Sciara, son of the eatery’s namesake, returned to the North Fork after spending seven years in North Carolina. The former Aquebogue resident spent his childhood working and learning the tools of the trade with his father at the Hampton Bays location. Wanting to return to the place he used to call home, Mr. Sciara decided to expand the business.
“I really missed the North Fork,” he said. “My father and I wanted to branch out. I couldn’t imagine a better place. We want to be a part of the community.”
Mr. Sciara purchased the Main Road store in December. Shortly after, he hired staff and upgraded the existing equipment left behind by the owners of the former Village Pizza.
“This is the best location we could have asked for,” he said. “A lot of stuff was already in place, so it made the transition easy. To me, this is the heart of the North Fork. It’s right next to Love Lane, which is a landmark itself.”
The new location is also located steps away from Mattituck High School — keeping the pizzeria busy.
“It’s been a really good first week,” Mr. Sciara said. “We’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback and the kids are going crazy for the buffalo pizza.”
The pizzeria has more than a dozen specialty pies — all prepared with Uncle Joe’s secret crispy crust recipe — appetizers and Italian entrees. They also serve a variety of soups and salads.
