The New York Wine and Grape Foundation is kicking off a campaign targeting New York City in an effort to increase sales of local wine.

The campaign, which will be held through the first three months of 2012, includes vineyard visits from New York City media and trade representatives to the Hudson River region, Finger Lakes and Long Island Wine Country. It also includes a visit to the city from the 38 participating wineries.

The culmination of the campaign will be a grand tasting at Astor Center in Manhattan.

“We’re not urging New Yorkers to buy New York wines because they’re local, but because they’re high-quality products at reasonable prices,” Jim Trezise, president of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation, said in a press release “But the added benefit of buying really good, affordable New York wine is that these consumers are also supporting their own state economy.”

Thirty-eight wineries from wine regions across the state are participating in the campaign, including nine from Long Island: Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard, Bedell Cellars, Channing Daughters, Macari Vineyards, Martha Clara Vineyards, Palmer Vineyards, Paumanok Vineyards, Raphael Vineyard and Wolffer Estate Vineyard.
